New Orleans Jazz Logo

Primary Logo (1974/75-1978/79)

What is the New Orleans Jazz Logo?

The Jazz franchise began life in New Orleans as the New Orleans Jazz for the 1974-75 NBA season. Their logo, which travelled with them to Utah in 1979, spelled out JAZZ in purple with the J doubling as a musical note. A purple, gold, and green basketball was worked into the J-note and the city name NEW ORLEANS was added in black italics to the upper right. The colour scheme of purple, gold, and green was chosen as it matched those of the famous Mardi Gras celebrations held in New Orleans.

First worn Thursday, October 17, 1974
Last worn Friday, April 6, 1979

Notable Players of this era: Gail Goodrich, Spencer Haywood, Walt Bellamy
