yeah, they had some hype before they made this logo public, and i must say that it really isn't all that great. just a little tune up, not a real "new logo"

Posted by:
February 13, 2008 - 20:44

it's more modernized, and I was hopin for a makeover, not just a tune up

Posted by:

the NFL stands for National Football League

Posted by:

they should have gone old school

terrible, just terrible! Look's cartoony and childish

The football is now supposed to imitate the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Posted by: JamesR5767
February 16, 2008 - 19:04

I think the eight stars on this NFL shield stand for the North, South, East and West divisions of both the AFC and the NFC. The football is in the Lombardi Trophy position and the letter style changed to a slightly different style. Might take some getting used to, but I can live with it.

Posted by: benjaminjoel2
February 17, 2008 - 14:14

The number of stars was reduced to 8, to represent the number of divisions. The previous number, 25, was discovered to have no meaning other than aesthetics.

I hate the football most. I've never seen the NFL play with a 5 lace football. If the football had 8 laces then I wouldn't mind it as much. But overall, this is a very tasteless and classless logo that Goodell has thrust upon all of the lifetime NFL fans.

The actual logo is kind of meh to me. The "NFL" lettering should have remained the same. Much classier version

Posted by: GTStangland
February 27, 2008 - 14:51

Streamlined and boring, the old one, in a simple way had class and history.

Posted by: 29texan
February 27, 2008 - 15:23

Ah... everyone hates the new logo at first. It'll grow on most of you.

It's not cartoony and childish. You people are stupid.

The old one was perfect. Why change it? They better keep the old one on the Lombardi Trophies in the future.

Posted by: deswax
March 22, 2008 - 16:00

I agree with almost everybody the new logo is awful.

Posted by: 29texan
April 7, 2008 - 20:07

O.K., seriously?
How is this awful. It's basically just the same logo, only with less stars and an updated wordmark.

Posted by: TFoA
April 19, 2008 - 00:07

The F is kinda weird. But it's not an awful logo.

Posted by: GoTigers
April 19, 2008 - 00:48

One of the major reasons they changed it was to simplify it for the merchandise producers because many times the compaines would not put all the stars on and they would call it an official logo but it wasn't. In my opinion, it could be better, but it could also be worse.

Posted by: AAO
April 25, 2008 - 17:56

A simple case of why change something that ain't broken. The 'NFL' wordmark doesn't line up with the outline on the blue shield like the old one did, because the new wordmark has straight edges.

They could've just updated the amount of stars and the football and all would've been perfect.

April 26, 2008 - 14:15

It's really grown on me. I hated it at first but, now, it looks more modern to me, and cleaned up. I like it. Looking back, it just makes the old NFL logo look too busy.

April 26, 2008 - 22:54

April 26, 2008... today makes it official. The new logo is here to stay... if ya like it or not.

Posted by: fishheatcats
April 27, 2008 - 01:09

If you didn't tell me I never would have noticed they changed it.

Posted by:
May 9, 2008 - 17:21

hmmm, its not that bad. But I agree with those who say it looks a little too cartoony. The letters should have been left alone. But I do like the idea for the 8 stars representing all Divisions.

All though I am aware of the differences between this logo and the old one they seem like very minimal differences today and I don't understand why everybody is complaining!

Posted by:

this logo is so dumb... there was nothing wrong with the old one. why change it?
I like it very much. The text is much like the ones used in the playoffs,SBXL,draft, and so on. I heard it was made to give the NFL a much hard, tough, and serious look.

June 3, 2008 - 13:12

I like the 8 stars over the 25,They should have kept the lettering the same, dont like the 5 laces on the football but the design is okay.

Posted by: GoIndians
June 4, 2008 - 18:20

it's pretty cool, actually. I wish they did not change it, just like all of the other people want. It will start to look good as the years go on!

Posted by: Dukefan 137
June 13, 2008 - 21:00

Besides the 5 laces I like it.

Posted by: fantasyplayer6
June 13, 2008 - 21:01

June 20, 2008 - 11:05

I really don't see a big difference

Posted by:
June 21, 2008 - 11:44

I don't see a difference other than the color

Posted by: CAB
June 22, 2008 - 15:20

Are you serious? You don't see any difference! Try comparing them side by side. They should have kept the logo the same as it was. This logo looks way too cartoony. Plus, they took away the curly-q on the l. They are messin' with history here.

Posted by: jayjackson3
July 3, 2008 - 16:03

I really don't get how so many of you are worked up over a logo update. It is about time the NFL retired that dinosaur of a logo and got with the modern times. I always thought they had the worst logo in pro sports, now it's not so bad.

Posted by: B_Mona
July 7, 2008 - 12:09

Have you noticed that all the NFL team primary logos look like alternate logos from the other sports?

Posted by: kholding10
July 7, 2008 - 14:25

It's really grown on me... At first, I wasn't too sure about the change. But, months later, I look at it and I like it.

Dumming down for an even dummer generation by the looks of it. Have any of you seen The London Olympic 2012 Logo yet ?...it was drawn by the same chimp with crayons that designed THIS pile of crap.

Speaking of 'dumBing down' for a 'dumBer generation'...

August 7, 2008 - 14:08

Hah! That's irony at its finest!

Posted by: Heitert
August 7, 2008 - 23:16

Ouch. Funny 'rip' on TheRam, Tony. But this logo HAS really grown on me. It still resembles the same iconic NFL logo but with a more modern and simple look. A lot easier for manufacturers to stitch on apparel too.

Posted by: SlyFox
August 11, 2008 - 22:48

I agree with Heitert. This logo fits the direction that the NFL has moved towards under Goodell. I didn't think there was anything wrong with the old one until I saw this one. Oh, and not to be annoying, but on the home page (where it has the "Quick Logo Links" section) you still have the old logo.

I to tell u the truth, i seem to like this one better than the last logo which i've grown up w/ considering i'm only 14!

its fine besides what does the league logo matter anyway

Horrible. This is clip art at its 'best'.

Posted by:
September 11, 2008 - 22:14

Come on, this logo is much better than the previous one. Are there 8 divisions in the NFL or 25? 8. The letters are cooler, too.

Posted by: Retromaniac
September 14, 2008 - 14:22

The problem with the previous logo was it didn't account for the Jaguars, Panthers, new Browns, or Texans. This one at least makes sense. It's also cleaner.

Posted by:
September 20, 2008 - 20:19

I like this logo better because the NFL now has 32 teams and the eight stars represent the eight divisions in the NFL.

November 3, 2008 - 09:17

I like it, but they should have kept the old script.

Posted by:
November 21, 2008 - 23:44

Ah, okay, can anybody explain why this was necessary? Yes, it is slightly different, but why? Got rid of some stars, titled the ball and gave it some goofy strings ... I don't get it.

Posted by: jacketfan
November 22, 2008 - 01:38

I like this new logo. Looks cool.

Dont know why they get a clearer picture of this.

Posted by: mattgetbiszy
December 18, 2008 - 01:19

I dont understand why only in the NFL do the home teams wear their dark jerseys... I it would make since to put the away team in the dark jerseys so they get worn out easier since dark colors attrack heat.

Posted by: nejerry
December 19, 2008 - 16:40

This is like the little jerk brother of the older better brother (logo). I got used to it, but I still don't approve.

Posted by: fraicolapavers
December 24, 2008 - 01:59

mattgetbuszy: The NHL also wears dark colors for home games. The heat won't affect the players because of their lage pads they wear.

Posted by: logonut
December 25, 2008 - 19:09

Another league logo that shouldn't have been changed, like the NHL. When will these clowns just leave well-enough ALONE?

Posted by: logonut

8 stars? One for each division? Lame.

Posted by: hammer25
January 10, 2009 - 09:40

These letters should stand for 'Natural Felons Legion' since it has so many players who get in trouble with the law!

LO fricken L at that one, hammer25! Not really.

Posted by: wdm1219inpenna
January 17, 2009 - 07:47

What I do not understand is why the league didn't begin using this logo in the 2002 season, since that was when the advent of 8 divisions began. Would have made sense to do it then. Perhaps even to have expanded in 2001 instead, and have a brand new logo and brand new league to start the first year of the new century.

I'm surprised that no one has commented as to the football, which was recycled from the Super Bowl XLI logo. Unless, of course, that comment is buried somewhere in the forum, which, knowing this crowd, I'm confident that it is.

Classic logo! I liked the update of the 8 stars, representing each division. However, they should have kept the curly "L" from the previous logo.

Posted by: nflguy
February 22, 2009 - 12:47

Huh?! How is this cleaner? You been looking at bad jpegs or something? The rounded font was better. This logo didn't need "fixing."

The font must be not chaged.

Posted by: TrueYankee26

nflguy, it's cleaner, because there are only 8 stars on this one (representing divisions), compared like 25 (represented nothing)
