What's the story of the Denver Broncos name and logos?

The Denver Broncos began life in the American Football League during its debut season of 1960. The team got the name Broncos via a name-the-team contest held in 1960, five-hundred entries were sent in but the winning entry of Broncos came via Lakewood, Colorado resident Ward Vining. Vining received two season tickets, one behind a post, as the top prize.

For their first two seasons the Broncos wore brown and yellow uniforms with vertical stripes on each sock, an unusual look. They adopted the blue-and-orange colour scheme they've since come to be known for in 1962 and have used it, with a few tweaks to the shades of those colours used, continously in the nearly 60 years since. The Broncos transferred to the National Football League with the rest of the AFL teams in 1970.
