The slash in the logo refers to soccer's "speed and energy" beginning outside the perimeter and driving upward at 45 degrees to show the "nonstop nature of the game and rising trajectory of the league". The three stars represent club, country, and community. The shield's division is also meant to represent the two halves of a soccer game, the open white space "brings you in and out of the MLS world"
