After a decade away, in 2002-03 the Pittsburgh Penguins return to a previous, long-used logo featuring a black and white penguin skating while holding a stick. Some changes are made, including to the beak and eyes of the penguin as well as the most noticeable change from yellow to the more muted Vegas Gold on the triangle. A tweak was made in 2006 to lighten the shade of gold used on the triangle and in 2017 the original yellow finally returned.
