In 1969, the Pittsburgh Penguins modernized their logo creating the design most familiar to fans of the franchise featuring a black and white penguin skating while wearing gloves and holding a stick on a yellow triangle. For these three seasons the penguin was placed within a navy blue and white circle. The circle was dropped in 1972 and the logo lived on for several decades without it.
