The Nashville Sounds, named for the "Nashville Sound" style of country music, began as a Double-A team in the Southern League for the 1978 season. In 1984, Sounds president Larry Schmittou purchased the Triple-A American Association Evansville Triplets and relocated them to Nashville, simulatenously relocating the Double-A Sounds to become the Huntsville Stars. When the American Association disbanded after the 1997 season, the Sounds transferred to the Pacific Coast League, they moved again to the International League in 2021 following Major League Baseball's restructuring of the Minor League Baseball system. The Sounds have been affiliated with numerous MLB teams over the years, the longest relationship has been with the Milwaukee Brewers over two stints.
